2018 Resolutions

There is no better way to start off the new year than by writing out your resolutions. This year I tried to keep my resolutions more practical because setting unrealistic goals for yourself at times can lead to a loss of motivation to accomplish them.

Don’t let fear of failure be the reason why you never reach your goals.

Be comfortable with your own company

Realize that people come and go in your life and the only person that will always be there for you is yourself. Understand that doing things on your own is ok. No one will know yourself better than you do.

“You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection” -Sharon Salzberg

Drink more water

Focus on your health and continue on your fitness journey. Don’t make excuses for yourself. Staying active and living a healthy lifestyle keeps you energetic and is how you feel your best.

Think positive, stop being pessimistic

Go into anything you do with a positive attitude and stop doubting yourself. Doubting yourself before even trying something is one of the unhealthiest you can do to yourself because you are limiting yourself of your capabilities.

“The greatest discovery of all time is that a person can change his future by merely changing his attitude.” – Oprah Winfrey

“You cannot protect yourself from sadness without protecting yourself from happiness.” ― Jonathan Safran Foer

Invest yourself in the things and people you love

Stop doing things that you think will make other people happy. Instead, do things that make you happy and surround yourself with people that build you up. Don’t surround yourself with people and involve yourself in things that drain you of energy. You are not only draining yourself of your energy, but also of your happiness.

“The most important thing is to enjoy your life—to be happy—it’s all that matters”- Audrey Hepburn

I know it is hard to travel while you are in school, but try to take more weekend trips when you have time. Being at school is fun, but sometimes it becomes draining and boring doing the same thing all the time, so try and travel more and try new things.

“Traveling is the antidote to ignorance” – Trevor Noah

Wake up early

All the convincing I needed.

Save money

As much you want to buy into the next trend, you need to save money.

“Money looks better in the bank than on your feet”- Sophia Amoruso

“There is no dignity quite so impressive, and no independence quite so important, as living within your means” – Calvin Coolidge

Stay busy

Always keep yourself busy doing things that will benefit you and your happiness. When you are being productive is when you are your happiest. It important to take breaks here and there, but when you are just lounging around all day not doing anything it makes you feel less inspired.

“Today I will do what others won’t, so tomorrow I can accomplish what others can’t.”- Jerry Rice

 Be more spiritual

I want to understand my religion more and become more emerged in it. I feel like I always make the excuse for myself and that I am too busy because I am at school but that isn’t true. Your faith can be practiced anywhere, even if you are way from your church at home, you just have to make time and integrate it into your daily life.

January 1st isn’t the only day you can change something about your life. The beauty of life is that you can change whatever you want whenever you want, you just have to take the initiative. Whatever it may be, I believe that you have the strength and power to do whatever you want! If you need that push, here it is

*virtual push*
